WAW LDB Summer Sessions – August
The August WAW LDB Summer session was less Summer more Autumn as the 10 degree drop in temperature from the glorious day before added a distinct chill to the air. But whilst women, especially in wakeboarding seem to be ‘solar powered’, this group of ladies seemed to be fuelled by the unseasonal elements to give more determination and gusto ‘laughing in the face of this excuse of a Summer’s day’!

Most of the ladies were regular attendees of the JBSki Ladies Morning cable sessions and so it was great to see so many transferring their cable skills to the boat. Nicky was first to demonstrate that there’s a great marriage between boat and cable, nailing her toeside 180 over the wake having practiced it tirelessly on the cable. Mel was next up and had a few ‘eureka’ moments with her toeside wake jumps, gaining confidence and edging harder with every attempt. Her sparkly new set up wasn’t enough to crack the concentration in her face, so it was up to the boat ‘cheerleaders’ including the cable’s Kirsteen Mitchell who came along to support, to get her smiling instead with some good old fashioned ribbing!

Katie was understanding her ‘pop’ off the wake much better, getting her timing to stand tall more synchronised to the point of getting spooked by the height when she got it spot on! She began her set like a bull in a china shop charging through the wake and hardly stopping for breath, but soon tamed it with the guidance of LDB to get smooth progressive edging with loads more determination.

A new face to the cable/boat group, was Jenny who beamed with effervescence! This bubbly character was loving every minute of her boat set and when instructed to ride switch, she looked totally blank! We realised that she had no idea of her left and right, but in no time at all, after a few stalled attempts, pulled that handle to her ‘other’ hip and was riding switch in sheer disbelief! Then to show off, she slid between switch and regular with ease, then merrily carved around switch, before taking the knarliest front edge to finish off her set !!!

We were thrilled to have our final lady join us, former Wakestock champion Jules Haley to have a little shred and provide a bit of inspiration to our ladies. In true Jules fashion, the speaker system was well tested out as one of her infamous playlists became the soundtrack to this spectacle. The boat looked on as she sang along cutting out for her signature stalefish grab, but we were honoured to witness the cleanest front roll from Miss Haley with a cheeky little grab thrown in for good measure! This clearly put her head in a good place and Jules was on fire, unlike that other thing the Kings of Leon song playing at the time suggested! It was a great way to round up a morning’s inspired riding from the ladies at JBSki.
The Wide-A-Wake goodie bag for best progress was awarded to Jenny for her willingness to try something new and daunting, then master it. Well done to all the ladies and LDB for his great coaching as always. Special thanks to our supporters, Shewee, Surfdome, Vitabiotics and LDB Wakeschool.
The next Summer Session will be held on Thursday 24th September from 4pm till 8pm. To book, please call JBSki reception on 0870 6061270. JBSki Ladies Mornings on the cable are held every Wednesday 9-11am till end of August, then 9.30 -11.30am from September
