WAW LDB Chicks Sessions Finale with guest coach Charlotte Bryant

To mark the last of the WAW LDB Summer Sessions for 2009 we invited National and Wakestock Champion Charlotte Bryant as guest coach for some inspirational guidance. The stunning evening at JBski was the perfect farewell to the summer with glassy conditions, awesome sunset and a boat full of chicks.

image Charlotte, fresh from knee reconstruction surgery, got into the coaching swing of things early on. It didn’t take long for her to discard her crutches to stand one legged so she could demonstrate exactly what she meant by “hips to the handle”, “knees bent, chest up”, chants that were heard repeatedly throughout the session! Despite the obvious apprehension from everyone over a wobble on the boat, Charlotte wasn’t going to compromise on getting her message across!

As is often the case, there was a mixed level of experience with the ladies for this session. We had Ashleigh Foulser, new to wakeboarding, then Nikki Bradley and Helen Major who’ve certainly been bitten by the bug this summer, Summer Session regular Rachel Simmonds and Sarah Bridger, just starting her love affair with the sport.

After Ashleigh’s land lesson with LDB, she charged through the beginner’s stages of using the boom bar, short line off the boom to riding the full line behind the boat. Not one to be phased, after taking on an unsettling mouthful and losing her breath, she composed herself to head back out and ride like it was second nature. It never fails to impress just how tough some of the girls really are.

Helen and Nikki both went out and made dramatic improvements with their posture and Charlotte’s coaching really helped them look more relaxed, controlled and confident. Nikki showing that she has the true makings of a champion… watch this space! Rachel had a ‘eureka’ session where she made those small adjustments to give her lots of clean controlled pop off the wake, rendering her grinning like the Cheshire Cat! Finally Sarah, new to wakeboarding, had a double set and steadily built her confidence getting more pop off the wake and good control.

The WAW Goodie bag was awarded to Ashleigh, a champion powerboat racer and the youngest competitor this year. Completely new to wakeboarding, she delayed giving it a go all summer due to her powerboat competition schedule. We’re looking forward to seeing more of Ashleigh and the rest of the girls in the WAW LDB Sessions 2010. Keep checking WAW for details.
