UniWake Hip-Notics Trip

Uniwake, the Universities governing wakeboard body, took a group out to Hip-Notics in Turkey for an Easter ‘jolly’! With more girls than guys present, Rachel Lucking thought you might like to hear how the Uni girls from Bangor, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth, Exeter, Coventry and Leeds Uni all got on.

Arriving at Hip-Notics there were 12 girls ready to hit the dock and for the first time in Uniwake history, girls outnumbered the guys. Marina and Ellis had never been on a cable before; every girl came with their own aims for the week.

“I had a great time! I really enjoyed learning new tricks and hopefully i will be able to go back next year!” Harriet

Everyone learnt a new trick varying in difficulty. Sian won most improved. At the start of the week she only knew how to get round the cable and by the end of the week she was landing the kickers as well as getting Ollie 180’s, switch riding and other surface tricks. Kirsty won the award for “most dedicated” shredding the lake all day every day to make sure she landed the 3’s on the box and off the kicker that she wanted. Harriet landed 180’s off the kickers and sliders and Hannah landing 180’s off the Kicker.

“Hip-Notics is such an amazing place and really chilled out place, it really helped me to learn some new tricks.” Marina

Whilst over on the beginner cable, Marina got round the cable and learnt switch riding (before dislocating her shoulder!). Cammi started the week on the beginner cable but by the end of the week was hitting kickers and landing surface 360’s, Lucy also started the week just getting round the cable and was landing Ollie 180’s (a massive improvement for a week’s riding.) Dobby nailed Ollie’s with the help of Chris and also braved hitting the kickers. Fi has just come back from a busted knee but still managed to ride every day - an achievement in itself! Hannah, Nikki and Rachel all had surface 360’s by the end of the week taking a lot of back edges along the way, whilst Nikki went on to learn Ollie back 180’s.

“One of the best weeks of my life, I could finally get dialled in riding switch because of the super flat water which now enables me to hit kickers and sliders switch without the worry of catching a edge. All the lovely people at Hip-Notics gave me the confidence to try new tricks such as spins on the fun box, which I got by the end of the week. The week has made me want to move onto bigger things such as tantrums and oh, watching pros ride from the view of the hot tub wasn’t too bad either!” Kirsty

Everyone’s riding improved a massive amount over the course of the week from the people who’d never ridden before those who’ve been riding for years, really proud of all of you.
