Queen of Wake - the battle has begun
The premier pro women’s wakeboarding series, Queen of Wake, kicked its second season at the Wake Games at Orlando Watersports Complex with a win for Dallas Friday. Despite the windy conditions the girls laid down some impressive tricks, with Friday showing what a few months of recuperation and training can do and leaving the other girls in no doubt that she is back to claim the her position at the top of womens wakeboarding. Missing out on the top spot by just a few points was 2008 Rookie of the year Raimi Merritt, with Melissa Marquardt completing the all American Podium. Despite looking impressive in qualifying last years Queen of Wake Nicola Butler had to make do with forth spot with Australians Amber Wing and Hayley Smith following closely behind.
The top female wakeboarders on the planet will compete during the course of the year to be named the “Queen of Wake” – an award based on points accumulated at each of the five stops of the series. Events included in the 2009 series are: the Wake Games, the WWA Wakeboard National Championships, the WWA Wakeboard World Championships, the Fort Worth, Tex. Pro Tour stop and the Sparks/Reno, Nev.
