Nicola Butlers wins PWT stop 1, Fort Worth, Texas
England’s Nicola Butler took first-place in the Pro Women’s division of the Pro Wakeboard Tour stop 1 at a packed Texas Mastercraft Fort Worth Texas. Adding to the English success was Nick Davis who claimed the ROCKSTAR Best Trick Award with a massive Toe-9 off the Kicker taking home the $1,000 cash prize.
The stars of the wakeboard world were out in force for the first stop of the 2009 Pro Wakeboard Tour but it was young guns that stole the show. In the Pro Mens division English rider Nick Davies was among the rookies who stormed through qualifying knocking out some of the big names in the process.
But it was Harley Clifford of Thornlands, Australia, who shocked everyone in Fort Worth by topping the Pro Men’s podium. Clifford, posting a 94.75 in his final run, beat Olivier Derome, Aaron Rathy and two-time wakeboard world champion, Andrew Adkison to the top spot.
“I’m just stoked… there are no other words,” said Clifford. “Making it to the Finals was huge for me, but winning my first U.S. Pro Tour stop is just unreal.”
For the second year in a row Nicola Bulter won the Pro Womens division ahead of former wakeboard world champ Amber Wing and four-time X Games gold medalist Dallas Friday. In 5th spot another rookie catching everyones attention was Meagan Ethell from Illinois who At 12-years-old became the youngest pro female rider to advance to a Pro Tour stop Final.
