Lyddstock Wake Up Weekender 2011

Lyddstock, the Kent based Action Water Sports charity event, is to be held this year between 27th and 30th May 2011. This amazing weekend promises Fire-shows, wakeboarding, water-skiing, camping, dancing, glow - raving, live music… and one heck of a party!
In its 4th year, the event aims to introduce people to a variety of water sports including Wakeboarding with coaching and demos from Steph Caller and Matt Price, whilst raising a whopping load of dosh for three great charities.
In past years, an impressive £15000 has been raised for the charities and this year they’re hoping to increase that total. Lyddstock 2011 will be supporting the Kent Air Ambulance, St Michael’s Cancer Hospice and Ashford Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by means of a synchronized ski by the organiser’s son (aged 4 1/2) with his pal Izzi, please check it out at www.justgiving.com/archizzi
People can camp around the lake all weekend, eat drink and party but the main motivation is to raise pots of cash for charity and introduce as many people as possible to the awesome sport of wakeboarding. Last year’s event catered for all levels from beginners on the training bar all the way up to Matt Crowhurst, Sean Obrien and Matt price showing all how it is done!!!!
To book your wakeboarding slot, fill in the application form found by calling 01797 321 885 and return it to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) The event also runs beginner packages at £39 O’Neil sponsored wetsuits supplied.

If you’re new to Lyddstock, here’s their round up of the 2010 event:
Lyddstock has grown considerably over its 3 year life and this year, and with the generous sponsorship of Relentless, Liquid Force, Da Kine, O’Neil and King Apparel Lyddstock 2010 was always destined to become a genuine feature of the UK wakeboarding calendar. Conceived through a love of wakeboarding and a love of a good party Lyddstock was born in 2008 and an added desire to raise money for three amazing charities has fueled the passion of the organizers and all of those involved to ensure that everyone remained entertained throughout – in short this is the story of Lyddstock 2010.

The August bank holiday provided the weekend, Action Watersports of Lydd provided the setting and 300 hundred excited people provided the party. Lyddstock is a family festival with many bells and whistles, all the profits go to St Michael’s Hospice of Hastings, the Kent Air Ambulance and Too Many Women. Lyddstock took over the lake at Action Watersports from 12 noon on Friday until 12 noon on Monday with 2 boats running flat out to tow all abilities and provide everyone with their full quota of water based adrenaline.

Matt Crowhurst, Sean O’Brien and Matt Price graced Lyddstock with their presence with a weekend of coaching and exhibition riding. Their professionalism, patience and skill were all awesome and they really upped the ante to make sure everyone was riding at their best and all progressing their ability. It was a joy to see them become so involved in all aspects of the weekend (including a few shapes thrown by Mat Crowhurst whilst lit up like a Christmas tree on a paddle board) and they were a real credit to their profession and showed just how much professionals can do to turn up the heat when it is done right!
The Xtreme Action team came to show the wakeboarders what stunt riding on a jet ski is all about, World Champion Anthony Burgess and Daniel Rowan blew everyone away with their talent and guts throwing down some outrageous moves that defied physics and reminding any doubters that jet skiing is a living, breathing adrenaline sport requiring real talent.
Some of the British barefoot ski team (and a guest appearance by the Stig) then joined the party with Adam Chalk and his crew proving on several passes why he is the current European Champion. Another skill set on the water exhibited with enormous talent and to the amazement of the crowds who had no idea such things could be done, on one foot, going backwards on the water a 40 mph – need I say more!!! Pete and Rawdon (the organizers) then tried their luck having raised £1,500 for the charities to do some barefooting dressed as Mexican wrestlers – they got a good battering and allot of smiles and showed without any doubt just how hard barefoot skiing is.
Whilst the wakeboarding, waterskiing, jetskiing, barefooting and paddle boarding may have been enough for any ordinary weekend by a lake, Lyddstock is no ordinary event. Intent on keeping people’s attention the organizers ensured that there was always plenty going on, on and off the water and this created for all that were there a genuine festival vibe to lie back and enjoy. At about 3pm the Blue Danube began to play out of the 6 k sound system and to everyone’s surprise a 1947 Stampe SV4C Bi plane piloted by the incredibly skilled chris jesson from Headcorn Aerodrome started dancing in the air to produce an awesome air show backed by a perfect blue sky, confirmation that the weather gods were definitely onside. With many stomach churning twists and what looked like (but were definitely not) out of control falls from the sky the pilot flew low over the lake with a final wave to his cheering crowd proving that you didn’t have to be on the water to delight the Lyddstock crowd!

Food was served throughout the weekend by a very hardworking crew behind the bar-b-q with delicious meats and salads all provided (and some very generously donated) by the Winchelsea Farm Kitchen.) It was a great treat to be at a festival but to remain fed day and night on quality food good enough that mum may have made it. A very busy bar, ice creams and freshly squeezed juices ensured that everyone’s thirst was also quenched and in the case of the bar possibly assisted just a little in keeping the party rolling!!
A fantastic firework display and stunning fire dancing, juggling and breathing by Lyddstock faithfuls Kyle Stevenson and Cenk Ustunel really got the party going on Saturday night and together with the sound system and some great DJ’s (the Orange Grove Organic massive!!) a full light and laser rig and allot of UV paraphernalia Lyddstock 2010 was truly transformed from a festival by a lake into a rocking party. The party saw the sunrise and then, perhaps with a few thoughts of the impending morning wakeboarding slots the lake fell quiet for a few precious hours of sleep.

It all happened again on the Sunday with the Mad Hatters Tea tent again providing a gentle alternative to the dockside shenanigans – acoustic live music, children’s entertainers, a surfboard simulator and a horizontal bungee, together with a brilliant face painter together ensured that Lyddstock’s ambition to provide something for all of the family was definitely met. The pros were out again in force, the barefooters got stuck in, a pig was roasted, Lyddstock kept on rolling until Monday when many smiling Lyddstockers wound down the weekend with a final communal spirited clear up ensuring that the lake was left as it was found!!
Amazingly over £15000 has been raised in 3 weekends for the charities and here at Lyddstock HQ we are blown away by everyone’s support of the event. THANK YOU
