July 2011 BEP Ladies Morning was HOT!!!
The girls were out in force this July BEP Ladies morning. With nearly 20 in attendance, it was one of our best yet. Sarah Kingdom and Lex Balladon were joined by Katie Batchelor in the glorious sunshine to help get the girls amped for a ride and push those boundaries. As per usual, the girls attending (epic numbers we hasten to mention again) gave it everything they had; persistence was the theme of the day and everyone was duly rewarded.
We had a few beginners who seriously dug deep and even when fatigue and a little frustration crept in, would not give up and sure enough, had success! Well done to newcomer Emily, who despite recovering from ankle surgery, managed to make light work of an ‘easyup’ board. She was awarded the WAW Goodie Bag with gifts, amongst others, from Shewee and Surfdome. Next Nadine and Nicky took their fair share of front edges and splats, but again their determination paid off! Lex awarded them her prizes from Nalu and 2Seasons.
Ladies Morning used to be very much a gathering of beginners and those just getting to grips with more basic techniques, but it has evolved over the years into a wonderful jamboree of women and girls of all abilities enjoying riding in each others company. It’s as much a social gathering with friendships forged and catch ups long overdue. We saw a lot of ‘tag team’ riding this session, with both Jaz and Chloe helping eachother with Ollie backside 180s, massive scarecrow efforts from Kathryn and Shar, Jane and Emma over from Nottingham and lots of 180 kicker work. It was great so see, at any given time, a small group of those attempting the kicker swimming back to shore egging one another on and de-briefing each other on their return to the dock.
Ladies mornings just embody the ethos of WAW, women out there all helping one another in this fantastic wakeboarding community that’s becoming firmly engrained with women’s extreme sports in the UK. Well done to everyone who came along, sorry we can’t mention you all; you’re all awesome. Special thanks go to our amazing operator Will for all his help and enthusiasm Rockstar!
