European Cable Wakeboard and Wakeskate Championships 2011

On Thursday 1st of September, Belgrade, Serbia will host the largest ever Cable Wakeboard and Wakeskate European Championships. With over 160 riders from 19 nations, this will be the biggest cable wakeboard and wakeskate competition ever seen in Europe. Competition will be fierce for the defending open wakeboard champions Mike Ketelepper (NED) and Kirseen Mitchel (GBR) and the defending open wakeskate champion Jan Kissmann (GER).

The competition will span 3 days, with finals on both Friday and Saturday. Riders will have two chances to show their skills and earn a place in the finals. Each category will be split into qualification heats with the leaders progressing straight to the finals and the rest having one final chance to qualify in the high pressure one run last chance qualifiers. With favorites going out early in the past, all riders will be riding hard from the moment they get on the water.

Aqua Ski Belgrade is situated on a large oxbow lake just outside the city and is a main tourist destination. The crowds are sure to be large with spectators watching the fight to become the 2011 European champions. With cable wakeboard having been recently put on the short list of sports being considered for the 2020 Olympic games, this competition will be particularly important for the younger riders who will be hoping to gain valuable experience and results.

In order to compete at the Europeans all riders must qualify with their federations by competing at national and international competitions, so for every rider just being able to enter the competition marks a great achievement.
