Becky Hall Wake Games Rider’s View
We reported earlier that Becky Hall was out in Florida training for the new season and whilst there, entered the WakeGames 2012. Here’s her report of what went down at the prestigious US boat event.
Words: Becky Hall
Having been out in Orlando riding for some time I decided to enter wake games just for fun and to get the experience of competing in USA. I entered the amateur ladies division and I had the first round on 12th April which happened to be my birthday.
I had to get to OWC to ride at 7.30am I got there just as the sun came up so it was lovely and flat. We didn’t get to ride behind the beast that is the G23 but we still it to go behind the 210 Byerly Edition which is still a super cool boat.
I was first of the dock which was a bit nerve racking but managed to stick most of my pass only falling once so I was super happy with that. I qualified 2nd which I was stoked about. This meant I got to go to the draft to be selected to be on a pro team. I got picked to be on Steel Laffertys team along with fellow Brit Ollie Moore (and as it turns out Pro Women’s winner Megan Ethell).
The next day was finals day I was next after Brooke Grassman to go of the dock she had a good run full of inverts which put the pressure on a little. I unfortunately fell twice and then it was Carolina Rodriguez turn to go she had a sick run falling once on a toe 5 but then getting up and sticking it straight after.
It was such an amazing experience and one I won’t be forgetting any time soon I took third place which I was happy with and Steel Lafferty’s team came 2nd overall missing out by only 3 points. It was a great start to my 2012 season.
