Relentless UK Pro Cable Tour Stop 1

On Sat 19th June, the Relentless UK Pro Cable Tour made its presence felt at Sheffield Cable water ski park. Six selected female riders were invited to take part and help set the precedence for the UK female cable riders. With Sophie Cordery and Tor Young, regular faces on the UK circuit, out of action with knee injuries (we wish them a speedy recovery) there were new faces amongst the usual suspects ready to cause an upset.

The girls laid down an impressive volume of inverts and introduced the crowds to the new generation of variations and technical tricks that we’ll soon come to regularly expect from UK female riders. In the qualifying round that was to determine starting positions for the finals, the girls didn’t hold back but bared their wake teeth!

Steph Caller, British Team rider and regular on the national circuit added a roll to blind in her second pass to add to her impressive blind spin work, Chloe Goudie, British Junior, again raised the bar with her tail grab Krypt and heel side 540 off the kicker.

New comer to the scene, kite surfer Hannah Whitiley, showed an easy transition to the cable with her raley and attempted S-bend, and Aussie Cable sensation Angelika Schreiber meant business with her qualifying nose grab raley and 540 off the kicker.

British Team Masters rider Alex Gardiner developed her run swapping her signature tantrum for a scarecrow and Kirsteen Mitchell, British Team phenomenon launched an invert attack of front, roll to blind, krypt and finished up with a switch tantrum. The qualifiers showed variety, improvement and lots of trick development from riding we’ve seen before; a development that’s just going to continue to grow.

It was all out war come the finals with the standard set, and the standard to be pushed. The final saw Hannah push forward with a backroll, nose grab raley and toe side 540, Chloe’s aggressive cut saw her go massive on her air tricks and add a roll to revert off the kicker. But the final 3 really upped the pace with Ange attempting a 720 off the kicker, Steph dominating the rails with a 360 on the wall ride, but it was Kirsteen to take first place with her massively improved rails skills showing off a 270 on 270 off the dragon and huge inverts like only Kirsteen can!

These women have set a very high benchmark for all the UK female wakeboarders to aspire to. They’re doing a fantastic job inspiring and motivating the next generation. Well done girls.

The next Relentless UK Pro Cable Tour stop is 24th July at Box End Park before the UK Nationals. See WAW for details and entry forms.
