King Of Cable 2009 Results
The UK cable wakeboarding’s season finale that is King of Cable, wrapped things up rather nicely for 2009 with Tor Young and Gary Stelfox crowned King and Queen of Cable 2009 at Princes this weekend. The weather held out, and in the last weekend of sun and warmth, the international riders descended upon Princes Club in Bedfont, for the combined King of Cable and WWA final tour stop of the 2009 European leg of the WWA Wakepark Series
Unfortunately due to injury and work commitments, some of the ‘old faithfuls’ were missing from proceedings, but the remaining girls rode their hearts out on the obstacle rich course. The format for the WWA event was a little different; scoring began off the dock and the course finished after a whole lap plus the first two obstacles. The riders were allowed one fall and a pick up, but only one run. This format allowed the spectators to see loads more of the air and rail skills and really raised the stakes for the riders!
It was great to see all three British riders Sophie Cordery, Tor Young and Alex Gardiner through to the Pro Women’s final, and despite a great run from Alex with her floaty tantrum, scarecrow, kicker raley and solid rail skills, the battle for top spot in the final tour stop of the WWA European leg, was between Sophie, new signing to Sooruz Clothing and Tor.
These two young ladies are really raising the benchmark for women’s cable wakeboarding here in the UK and their display of raley’s krypts, fronts, blind judges and huge rolls to blind, not to mention super slick rail skills will guarantee their place on top in the UK scene for years to come. Sophie’s backlip over the A frame stood out as some of the best rail riding of the day and Tor’s air tricks are possible the biggest and most solid she’s ever done. A tight fight, but over all Sophie took the first place with Tor a close second with Alex third.
Sophie also won the Women’s Oakley Roof top best rail trick. The riders were treated to a whole host of amazing rails including the Relentless Leviathan from Wakestock and the winning rail from the Alliance ‘design a rail’ competition.
The Junior Girls also made their mark with Princes Rider Chloe Jones winning the category by nailing her massive tantrums and getting in her krypt as well.
The top two riders from each category then went forward to battle it out for King and Queen of Cable with a few others entered too. We’re pleased to that last month’s Box End Ladies Morning Goodie Bag winner Abbie Jones rode well despite her nerves, nailing her heel side 360, representing the students well.
This being the final tour stop of the WWA European Wakepark Series and a whole load of cash up for grabs, the overall tour leaders could be calculated from results of the Ukraine and Germany tour stops. The tour results are:
1st place: $1000 Tor Young
2nd place: $ 800 Alexandria Gardiner
3rd place: $ 600 Maxine Sapulette
4th place: $ 400 Sophie Cordery
5th place: $ 200 Kinga Horvath
Sooruz clothing will be available in Wakeboard stores in March 2010 and soon available through www.sooruz.co.uk
